Recovery: Yin, Restore & Breathwork
Yin, Vin-Yin, Restore and Breathwork at our Brighton and Noarlunga studios: slow, supported classes that balance strong training and a busy week. You will leave feeling soft, rested, and whole.
Effort and surrender
Why Recovery Belongs in Your Week
Recovery belongs in your week because effort needs its opposite. Heated yoga and Pilates ask for heat, focus and work; Recovery asks for the reverse: stillness, slow breathing and rest.
Each recovery class is designed to help your body shift into rest. Bolsters and blankets take your weight, holds are long and quiet, and the breath slows down. Many people find they leave lighter and clearer than they arrived.
Our name reflects the balance we seek through movement and rest. In Ayurveda, Vata is the energy of air and space in motion. Recovery classes bring grounding warmth, slow breathing and stillness.

Recovery
Four Recovery Classes
Non-heated
Change the breath, change the state.
The Experience
Guided breathing patterns, from slow, lengthened exhales to more energising rounds, taught step by step. Guided breathing makes space for calm, clarity and renewed focus.
Best for
calm, clarity, and renewed focus
Warm (32°C) or Non-heated
Fully supported rest.
The Experience
Restorative shapes held with bolsters, blankets and blocks, and slow breathing throughout. Designed to help your nervous system shift down a gear.
Best for
rest, recovery, and winding down
Warm (32°C)
Flow first, then stillness.
The Experience
The first half is a gentle Vinyasa flow; the second settles into long Yin holds. Warming the body first makes the stillness easier to find.
Best for
mobility, release, and balance
Warm (32°C)
Stillness, held.
The Experience
Floor-based shapes held for several minutes, supported by bolsters and blocks. Long, quiet holds invite release and a sense of calm.
Best for
deep release, rest, and a quieter mind

A weekly rhythm
How Often Should You Take a Recovery Class?
Choose recovery classes by how you’d like to feel, and build a rhythm that suits your week. You might pair Sculpt Pilates or Vinyasa with Yin or Restore when you want supported rest.
If you train elsewhere, on the pitch, on the road or in the gym, recovery can complement that movement. Choose stillness, a gentle flow or guided breathing to suit you.
- For strength and flow: Sculpt Pilates, Strength, Vinyasa or Power Yoga
- For mobility and rest: Yin, Vin-Yin or Restore
- For calm and clarity: Breathwork

Recovery Class FAQs
Restorative yoga is a slow practice of a few shapes, each held for several minutes while bolsters, blankets and blocks take your weight. At VATA Studios, our restorative class is called Restore: fully supported, with slow breathing throughout, and designed to help your nervous system shift down a gear.
Both are slow and floor-based, but they ask different things. In Yin, you hold shapes for several minutes and feel a gentle stretch as you soften into them. In Restore, the props hold you so completely that the aim is rest rather than stretch. Vin-Yin adds a gentle flow before the Yin holds.
Some are, gently. Yin and Vin-Yin run warm (32°C), Restore runs warm or non-heated, and Breathwork is non-heated. The timetable shows the heat for every class, so you can choose before you book.
Yes. Recovery classes are a kind way to start at VATA Studios: slow, supported and calm, with no experience needed. Yin, Restore and Breathwork make good first classes. Tell your teacher it’s your first time and mention any injuries, and they’ll help you set up with the props you need. If you’re pregnant, skip heated classes, including warm ones, and ask your doctor or midwife what suits you. If you’re recovering from surgery or sensitive to heat, check with your GP before a warm class.
Your teacher guides you through breathing patterns step by step, from slow, lengthened exhales to more energising rounds, and you can return to your natural breath at any time. If you’re pregnant, have epilepsy, are recovering from surgery, or are managing a heart, blood pressure or breathing condition, check with your GP first and tell your teacher when you arrive.
Every membership and class pass covers the weekly recovery classes. Sound baths and breathwork workshops are separate events, and The Foundation includes 10% off events and purchases at VATA Studios. The Foundation is $35 a week on a 12-month commitment at both studios.
